Zionism and Jewish Identity

The greatest propaganda victory of the Zionists is that have succesfully equated Zionism with Judaism -thus anyone who criticises Israel is guilty of anti-semitism. Judaism is a proud and ancient heritage of a unique and extraodinary people.Zionism is a fascist ideology engaged in the ethnic cleasing of the Palestinian people. We need to make a concerted conscious effort to de-link these concepts. Many orthodox Jews are opposed to Zionism and the Jewish state as they believe that Israel should only come into existence due to the direct intervention of God- ie the returned Messiah- not by the hands of men. The brave stance of the Shministim and other Jews confronting the state in many ways also shows the falseness of this equation.Until people become aware of the distinction any opposition to the Jewish state in the international arena is doomed to fail.

As for this comment" Many orthodox Jews are opposed to Zionism and the Jewish state as they believe that Israel should only come into existence due to the direct intervention of God- i.e. the returned Messiah- not by the hands of men." I ask the author who are these 'Jews' he speaks of that believe in the direct intervention of G-D i.e. the returned Messiah", the author clearly does not know whether he is talking about Jews or Christians which believe in the second coming, Jews believe we are still waiting for the Moshiach!

With such little knowledge of Jewish history and Jewish theology it is no wonder the author is utterly ignorant of what Zionism is actually all about!

This reply is typical of the idiotic nit-picking over irrelevant detail employed by those who have nothing intelligent to say. You imply that I am ignorant and confusing Christian and Jews ideas. I am aware that Jews are still awaiting their Messiah I make no mention of a second coming. I have seen orthodox Jews protesting on the streets of Israel against the Israeli state-- they believe that Israel should only exist after the coming of the Messiah- it is you that needs to open your eyes to what is going on. I know enough about Zionism to know that it is a fascist perversion of a unique, ancient and proud heritage for which I have much respect. The Israeli state is engaged in the genocide of the Palestinian people. God is a being of infinite love -- there is no doubt that if you messiah were to come today he would be firmly on the side of Palestinians- By choosing the path of bloodshed the people of Israel(and- just to make it clear I refer here to supporters of the zionist state not the Jewish people as a whole) have smashed any covenant they may have had with God, (have you forgotten the Commandment--You shall not kill-what about this one "Neither shall you covet your neighbor’s wife. Neither shall you desire your neighbor’s house, or field, or male or female slave, or ox, or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor"--yet you have stolen the land of Palestine from the true owners, and covet what is left) and thus can no longer claim to be his chosen people.

Since when were you appointed

Since when were you appointed as God's spokesman? And you clearly know what it means to be God's chosen people. Chosen for what?

Genocide? I think not.
Stolen the land of Palestine? Give me the boundaries of that State. The state of the Ottoman Empire's Palestine? Or the British Empire's state? Or the Kingdom of Jordan's boundaries - again a creation of the British but the home to many Palestinians (well the ones who survived Jordan's massacre/genocide).

History is never simple. It can be messy, but don't throw it in the rubbish bin. Without an honest appraisal you might end up looking and sounding rather silly.

So there was no State of

So there was no State of Palestine -- so what-- there were  people( call them Arabs, palestinininians whatever you choose) who lived in the part of the world today called Palestine. These people and there ancestors had been living there for generations, centuries even. To say there was no state of palestine doesnt mean the land was empty. These people were brutally dispossed of their land by an invader whose dubious claim to the land is based on the fact that they lived there two thousand years ago. My ancestors were celts-- does this give me the right to mount an invasion of Scotland-- I think not.
