Seminar for Activists in Khayelitsha

OSS will be holding an educational seminar on Tuesday 13th July, 15h00-17h00 at Lookout Hill in Khayelitsha, Cape Town.

Open Gaza Now

We condemn the Israeli attack on the flotilla to Gaza and the blockade this attack seeks to enforce. The attack killed 9 people and the blockade has killed many more.

Clarification: Open Shuhada Street did not sign statement

On 3 June 2010 the Coalition for a Free Palestine issued a statement titled "Palestinians welcome South Africa recall of ambassador". At the end of the statement, signed by a number of organisations, appeared the name 'Open Shuhada Street'. This was done in error. OSS did not consent for the use of the organisation's name for this statement. The Coalition for a Free Palestine have acknowledged the mistake in an e-mail to OSS. By way of clarifying OSS's position on the attack on the Gaza flotilla and the blockade of Gaza the organisation will be releasing its own statement shortly.

A report from the Gaza March by Amira Hass in Ha-aretz and Jewish Peace News

Amira Hass was in Cairo during the stay of the Free Gaza March activists, and she went into Gaza with the small group that was allowed to enter (minus those who declined).

This article covers some of her impressions of the activists in Cairo, as well as what happened in Gaza. This last part has not been widely reported, especially the role of Hamas in keeping the visitors under tight control, and undermining civil society role in organizing and carrying out the Free Gaza March.

Gaza Freedom March

On 27 December, people from across the world will convene in Cairo. They will cross into Gaza on 29 December and march alongside the Palestinian people in a non-violent demonstration on 31 December, demanding an end to the Israeli siege.

Visit the official site of the march.

Read the statement. Open Shuhada Street has endorsed it. You can too.

Sign this petition to support the Goldstone Report

Please take one minute to go to www.SupportGoldstone.org and sign the petition.

Here is the text of the petition:

The UN Goldstone report is a well-researched, fair-minded report. Israel and Hamas must conduct credible, independent investigations on war crimes and possible crimes against humanity or face the International Criminal Court. We demand accountability for all victims, respect for the rule of law, international law and human rights.
